lofoten - aurora hunting
The Aurora Borealis is absolutely magical to witness. From calm dancing streams of green light through to a spectacular Corona explosion, when you first see the northern lights the sky will never seem the same again.
If I'm heading north to purposely hope to see the Northern Lights I plan my trip around the new moon, meaning the sky is darker, and then are generally visible from September through to April. You need to hope for a clear sky's and cold conditions
There are plenty of Aurora Forecast Apps to let you know the probability of seeing them.
If you want to photograph them you will need a tripod and a remote control.
I put all settings onto manual, switch the focus to infinity, ISO to 800 and shoot between 15-30 second exposures
Good luck....
