BERLIN - TO EAT
You will have plenty of options to eat in Berlin. These are a few of my favourite haunts as of January 2018 - but as with everything in Berlin, things change very quickly - so check they are still there, and also what the latest and coolest place is today, as for sure this will be different to yesterday...
cookies cream - Mitte
Cookies Cream is an absolutely amazing restaurant and I can't recommend this hidden gem enough, and they have just been awarded a Michelin Star. They get very busy so you will need to book in advance. Cookies Cream is a contemporary vegetarian fine dining restaurant - with some of the best food I have every experienced. Head to The Westin Grand Berlin and head down the service entrance road to the left hand side of the hotel, past the bins and look out for the chandelier and just on the right you will see a bell. We paid around 100 euros per person for 3 courses of exceptional food, including drinks, and based on the quality of the food, the service, ambience and total experience they really could be charging a lot more.
Chef Stephan Hentschel is known throughout Germany for his outstanding vegetarian creative dishes, of which he says: “No hocus-pocus, we already have enough of that anyway. My creations are absolutely unorthodox, honest and worthy of the peculiar taste of the vegetables and wild herbs.“
Enjoy!
cafÉ AM neueN see - tiergarten
One of my favourite restaurants and locations in Berlin. Always guaranteed to be full of locals. In the summer enjoying the outside beer garden and restaurant or boating on the lake. In the crisp autumn they will be enjoying beer at Octoberfest or in the winter enjoying the beautiful candle lit ambience and the warmth from the log burners. Breakfast, lunch or dinner I have never failed to be be impressed. Give it a go, you will de delighted if you do. Booking is recommended.
april - schöneberg
Love this restaurant in Shöneberg. I found it when I lived in Berlin in 2011 and it has never disappointed in all these years. Excellent coffee, breakfasts, lunch and dinner, as well as a good wine list. Always busy with very friendly staff and service. Nice outside space on the street front to eat in the summer, and cosy candle lit space inside. Breakfast plates are generous with lots of choices, as with dinner.
Best to book for dinner or Sunday breakfast. Cash only
cecconi's, soho house - mitte
Cecconi’s Berlin is a modern day classic Italian restaurant open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday, and for brunch on weekends. Cecconi’s serves hand-made pasta, seafood and dishes from Italy. The restaurant is on the ground floor of the Soho House building. It has an open-plan kitchen, wood oven, marble floor, red leather booth seating and an outside terrace for the summer months. The food as wonderful and really not expensive, recommend booking as it gets very busy.
Crackers - Mitte
Crackers in Mitte is the sister restaurant of CookiesCream, and I would highly recommend this place also. Situated on the floor below CookiesCream, you need to ring the bell on a discrete gate on Friedrichstraße, you will head down the passage past graffiti in homage to Cookies Club, through the kitchen into the impressive restaurant. High ceilings, a great atmosphere and crowd as well as a great drinks list and cocktails - this place is really worth a visit. Unlike Cookies this place serves meat, making the menu extensive and I really was spoilt for choice. The service was faultless and I found myself wondering how I didn’t know about this place before.
Go visit - you’ll love it!
